Bournemouth 0-2 Crystal Palace: Player ratings as Eagles finish 2022 in style

Crystal Palace finish ed 2022 in style with a commanding 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League , putting them within a point of the top half and a Health y nine clear of the relegation zone. There were only 19 minutes on the clock when Jordan Ayew fired the Eagles into the lead, although Patrick Vieira’s had already forged a few half chances by then. The goal was deserved after that early spell of pressure, with Ayew successfully wriggling free of any defensive attention to meet Michael Olise’s high corner with his head. But Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers will have been disappointed not to have commanded the situation better. Olise was a source of danger for Palace, both from set-pieces and open play. Around half an hour in, his cross found Wilfried Zaha in the box and Travers needed to be alert to stop it. Bournemouth hadn’t had a single shot by that stage and then found themselves 2-0 down. Another Olise corner, but a low one this time, pulled back to Eberechi Eze on t

Liverpool 2-1 Leicester City: Player ratings as Wout Faes nightmare gifts Reds win

Image
A forgetful defensive display from Leicester saw Liverpool snatch a 2-1 win and three points without actually scoring themselves on Friday evening. The Reds got off to the worst possible start when Leicester burst ahead inside five minutes, but somehow headed into half-time 2-1 up thanks to Wout Faes, who had a Game to forget to say the least. Liverpool improved in the second half and looked more settled, but with both sides looking incredibly wasteful, the two own-goals would ultimately prove the difference and put Liverpool within a point of fifth-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table. In a game they would've backed themselves to control and win, Liverpool found themselves behind after just four minutes when Leicester launched a ball long, won the three phases after and allowed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to burst through the hosts' defence with staggering ease to fire past Alisson. Proceedings remained high-paced after that, even with Leicester losing Patson Daka t

Alexis Mac Allister: Update on future amid Juventus & Atletico Madrid interest

Alexis Mac Allister's father has commented on Juventus' interest in his son, stating that they will analyse any offers that are received. The Brighton star has been heavily linked with a move away from the Premier League club following his fantastic performances for Argentina at the FIFA World Cup. Having already started the club season well with the Seagulls in the Premier League , Mac Allister was instrumental in Argentina's triumph in Qatar, setting up Angel Di Maria's goal in the final and putting in a number of lung-bursting performances along the way. These displays have, as expected, alerted some of Europe's biggest clubs. 90min understands that two are Juventus and Atletico Madrid, who are both in the market for new central midfielder. Juve are keen to replace Adrien Rabiot in the near future , with the player all set to leave this summer once his current contract ends. Rabiot has been offered to Barcelona and a number of Premier League clubs ahead of the

Why Sainz believes Ferrari 'aren't far away' from Red Bull

Image
Carlos Sainz believes that Ferrari can be optimistic of their chances of overhauling Red Bull next season, despite their rival's convincing championship win in 2022. Ferrari's championship challenge failed to materialise despite a strong start to the 2022 season. Two wins in four races gave Charles Leclerc and Ferrari the early leads in the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. However, Red Bull's development, along with Ferrari errors, meant that the Milton Keynes team ultimately dominated the year with 17 out of 22 Grand Prix wins. Sainz, who had his own pace deficit issues, was asked how big the challenge would be to get ahead of Red Bull in 2023, with the Spanish driver pointing to Ferrari's superior qualifying pace. "I feel we have chances," Sainz told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "Red Bull has been dominant, but they've been dominant without being clearly ahead in pure qualifying pace and race pace. So I don

Chelsea still miss killer instincts but at least have a blueprint for second half of season

Chelsea have been one of the Premier League 's biggest underachievers so far this season , a team that does not deserve the 'world champions' tag which they technically still retain. The Blues looked stale in the last weeks of Thomas Tuchel's tenure, and after enjoying Graham Potter's new manager bounce, they quickly reverted to their 2022 type - a stale squad that looked sick to the back teeth of each other. Heading into the World Cup break, their bloated roster was seen as a strange amalgamation of Roman Abramovich's win-now regime and the scattergun approach overseen in Todd Boehly's first summer. The hope was that a reshaped recruitment team would lead a rebuild moving forward and that this season would be about treading water ahead of a new era. On Chelsea's return to Premier League action on Tuesday though, they showed real signs of life and gave fans optimism that they are still contenders in the top-four race. Goals from Kai Havertz and Mason M

Kevin Love says Cavaliers should retire Kyrie Irving's jersey: 'Not even a question'

Image
The Brooklyn Nets secured their ninth straight win Monday night, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 125-117. The win pushed the Nets ahead of the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference standings to the No. 3 spot, with only a half-game separating the two squads. Following Brooklyn's win, in which Kyrie Irving dropped 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, Cavaliers forward Kevin Love spoke fondly of his former teammate, and even went so far as to say the All-Star guard should have his jersey retired by the franchise when his playing days are over. "Without a doubt. Absolutely. Right away, after his career ends," Love said via The Plain Dealer . "It's not even a question to me. He needs to be up there. He made the biggest shot in franchise History and one of the most important shots in Finals History when you consider how it all went down -- what it meant for the city, what it meant for

Andy Robertson sets Premier League defender assist record

Andy Robertson set the Premier League record for most assist s by a defender during Liverpool's 3-1 victory at Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The former Hull left back set up Mohamed Salah for the Reds' first at Villa Park, squaring across the box having been brilliantly found by Trent Alexander-Arnold. That cross to Salah was Robertson's 54th assist in the current iteration of England's top flight, taking him clear of former Everton and Wigan defender Leighton Baines, who is now second with 53. Robertson has achieved the feat in almost half Baines' career games, though will face some competition from a current teammate for top spot. Aston Villa 1-3 Liverpool: Player ratings as Salah scores in Reds win Alexander-Arnold is also renowned for his creativity from right back and already has 45 assist s in the Premier League , making him third in the all-time standings. The pair have previously spoken about their competitive rivalry in the assists table, with Robertson ind

The 50 greatest football managers of all time

Image
Being a football manager is a difficult oul job. You're the first to be blamed for a team losing a game, and the last to be thanked for winning one too. But, despite the thanklessness of their task, some people excel in the role. They win games, trophies, and earn the respect of players, pundits and fans alike. Below is a list of 50 managers who have done exactly that throughout the history of the game - ranked, obviously. 50) Vic Buckingham Buckingham was an innovator / Central Press/GettyImages The greatest manager you’ve probably never heard of. The Londoner was a true pioneer of total football and a key factor in a rise of the great Johan Cruyff. Buckingham is renowned as lauded as a hero on the continent, but his ideologies came too early for a stubborn English fan base who thought it was their way or the highway. 49) Claudio Ranieri Ranieri brought glory to Leicester / Michael Regan/GettyImages One of the most charismatic managers in the history of the game, Claudio Ranieri
