Mikel Arteta nears Jurgen Klopp record after fourth Premier League Manager of the Month award

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been named March's Premier League Manager of the Month, and is now just one behind Jurgen Klopp's single-season record of five award s. March was a strong month for the Gunners, who also saw winger Bukayo Saka named the division's Player of the Month earlier on Friday. Arteta was up against Pep Guardiola, Unai Emery and Roberto De Zerbi for this month's award , but after an undefeated month which yielded four wins and 14 goals across four Game s, the Spaniard has won once again. It is the third time in the past four months that Arteta has won the award, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag breaking his streak last month. READ NEXT manual Arteta now has four Manager of the Month awards to his name this season, having won his first back in August, and he is now just one behind Klopp's record of five, which he set in 2019/20. Whether he will get his hands on the trophy in April remains to be seen, with Arsenal facing a gruelling s

Tyler Adams out for extended spell with hamstring injury

USMNT captain and Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams will spend an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing a hamstring operation.  The player missed the last Premier League match against Wolves, before being dropped from the United States men’s national team 24-player roster for the CONCACAF Nations League.  "It's unfortunate about Tyler," said USMNT interim manager Anthony Hudson at the time of the roster announcement. "He is such an important player to us, our captain, and he did an incredible job at the World Cup and improving every time we see him in the Premier League . So, it was disappointing news that we can't have him.” READ NEXT manual Originally, Adams was expected to return after the international break, but the hamstring surgery forces a completely different recovery timeline. Though the operation was described as 'noninvasive', his return during the 2023 season remains questionable.  There has been no official comment from Leeds

Pep Guardiola reveals what makes Kevin De Bruyne 'unstoppable'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has described Kevin De Bruyne as ‘unstoppable’ when he has the kind of ‘fire inside him’ that was on display against Liverpool on Thursday night. De Bruyne was the star of the show as City knocked their Premier League rivals out of the Carabao Cup, his first Game since a disappointing World Cup campaign with Belgium that saw the Red Devils underperform and exit the tournament at the group stage. Back in City colours, De Bruyne put on a masterful display. He assisted two of City’s three goals on the night and sent multiple other world class deliveries into the penalty area. Man City 3-2 Liverpool: Player ratings as De Bruyne masterclass seals Carabao Cup win “Kevin, when he plays with this fire inside of him – he has to find himself this fire – what a player,” Guardiola told Sky Sports afterwards. “Always I push him to find this fire, sometimes he’s a little bit… I know there’s a lot of Game s but in important Game s when he has this, unstoppable

Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool are 'prepared' to do business in January transfer window

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said he is ‘not against investment’ in the January transfer window , with the club seemingly prepared to spend. The Reds have found themselves light in several positions this season, largely as a result of injury. Thiago was sidelined earlier in the campaign, with Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones also missing Game s. Arthur was signed on loan from Juventus to boost numbers, only to suffer a long-term injury himself. Further forward, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have been absent for substantial periods. Liverpool have their sights on Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham, who is not expected to be on the move until the summer of 2023 at the earliest. But January moves are at least a possibility for the club, Klopp has now confirmed. When will Jude Bellingham make decision on his future? “I’m not against investment but we will see what the future brings, nobody knows at the moment. I’m still convinced the future will be good,” the boss claim

Man Utd trigger contract extensions for 4 key players

Manchester United have triggered one-year contract extensions for Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Fred and Diogo Dalot to keep all four players at Old Trafford until 2024. The quartet were due to be out of contract at the end of this season under the main terms of their respective deals. But United have often included 12-month options in deals that can be triggered to give the club extra protection against losing players as free agents. It now gives United more time to either negotiate longer-term contracts or seek transfer fees. “I can confirm it,” Ten Hag told MUTV . “We are happy because the squad is going in the right direction and those players [have] a massive contribution in that direction.” Rashford in particular has been in resurgent form this season, scoring nine goals in all competitions by the time club football paused for the World Cup – almost double his tally for the whole of what had been a disappointing 2021/22 campaign. He then scored three times at the World Cup. Sha

Grizzlies' Ja Morant returns from suspension, scores 17 off bench in win over Rockets

After serving an eight Game suspension for conduct detrimental to the league, Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant return ed to Game action against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.  Morant came off the bench for the first time in his career, and he received a loud ovation from his home crowd when he checked in for the first time late in the first quarter. Sporting a black mask to protect a nasal injury, Morant played a total of 24 minutes and he tallied 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals in Memphis' 130-125 victory. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the way for the Memphis with 37 points and 10 rebounds and Desmond Bane added 20 points and seven assists for the Grizzlies, who improved to 45-27 and now lead third-place Sacramento by two games with 10 remaining in the season. After the game, Morant expressed gratitude for the support he has received during a diff

Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal's plans for January transfer window

Mikel Arteta has admitted he would like Arsenal to complete their January transfer business as soon as possible. The Gunners return to Premier League action on Boxing Day sitting five points clear at the top of the table. However, a serious injury to star striker Gabriel Jesus has threatened to derail this title bid. They remain interested in Mykhaylo Mudryk, while Gabriel Martinelli is close to agreeing terms on a new long-term contract. Speaking ahead of their clash with West Ham on Monday, Arteta discussed Arsenal 's plans for the upcoming transfer window . "We knew the importance of getting players early in the summer and that is the same we want to do in January," he said. "This is idealistic. Sometimes it is not realistic. But obviously, if you ask my opinion, as quick as possible we want the players in to get settled. "In this league with the competition, where the bar is and what the standards have been for the last four or five years - something the

Everton 1-2 Wolves: Player ratings as late goal earns Julen Lopetegui maiden Premier League win

A late, late goal from substitute Rayan Ait-Nouri earned Julen Lo Pet egui a win in his first Premier League Game as Wolves manager. A first half goal from Yerry Mina was cancelled out by Daniel Podence in a fiery Game at Goodison Park, before Ait-Nouri popped up in the 94th minute to give Wolves a crucial win. Tempers flared on a number of occasions throughout the Game which, despite both sides' best efforts, lacked many moments of genuine quality. Everton were the much more impressive team in the opening exchanges and deservedly took the lead in the seventh minute through Yerry Mina. The centre-back rose highest from a Dwight McNeil corner kick to cannon a header into the bottom corner of the net. Wolves responded well to going behind and began to press forward with an intent that they've rarely shown all season. That intent would be rewarded in the 21st minute when Daniel Podence made it 1-1. The tiny forward stole in the back post to latch onto a fantastic outside-of-th

Do Liverpool even need Cody Gakpo?

It was confirmed on Monday evening that the sale of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven to Liverpool was complete, reportedly for an initial fee of £37 million. Add-ons should take that to around the 45 million range, a very respectable price for a player with 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 appearances for PSV this season. But do Liverpool actually need him? Much has been made of Gakpo's fit - initially with a potential move to Manchester United in mind but now with Jurgen Klopp's squad. As a right-footed, left-sided forward, he will certainly have com Pet ition for a starting berth at Anfield but that was always going to happen. He's too good not to be joining a Champions League-level squad with serious attacking talent across the front line. Let's break down what role he fills and whether he actually solves any problems for Liverpool. First things first. In the short term, Gakpo is a quality replacement for Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, who are both out through injury. Their ti

Tottenham face their latest crossroads as Antonio Conte deadline looms

A hard-fought comeback to draw away at one of the league's most consistent banana skins, in isolation, doesn't seem like a bad result. For Spurs, however, Brentford away was just another reminder of the distance between the club they are and the one they want to be. How many times have we been here? How many more times can we end up here? How do we find our way out? For a solid decade now, Spurs have teetered on the precipice of success. They have experienced title challenges, cup runs, a sodding Champions League final - yet time and time again, they have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, opening themselves up to untold mockery and scorn. The problems with the squad are plain to see. It is not a squad capable of winning titles and, in truth, it's barely even Champions League quality. The rapid evolution of Newcastle and the revival of Arsenal threaten to undo the work that has been done during Antonio Conte's short reign at the club but, really, Tottenham's

Christian Eriksen discusses the difference in Marcus Rashford

Christian Eriksen has said it is possible to feel recent transformation in Marcus Rashford after he took his brilliant World Cup confidence back to Manchester United. Rashford appeared to have lost his way during the 2021/22 season, during which he only scored five goals in the entire campaign. He has scored double that tally already this season, including a goal in each of his two Game s since returning from the World Cup with England. Given his absence from England squad since Euro 2020, the 25-year-old was an unexpected star for the Three Lions in Qatar, scoring three goals in their run to the quarter-finals. It was Eriksen who made the assist for the most recent of those goals  - the opener in the 3-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest – and the Dane says he is really enjoying playing with Rashford at the moment. “He played very well, luckily I haven’t been on the pitch where he has played a bad Game yet,” he said after United beat Forest. “I let him continue that, he is l
