Image
Manchester United are exploring the chances of signing Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus as they continue their search for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo this month, 90min understands. Ronaldo saw his contract terminated before the World Cup following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, though his departure - which came at little to no cost to United at the time - has now left manager Erik ten Hag short of options in attack. The Dutchman has publicly stated his desire to bring in a new forward this month, though has been keen to stress they must acquire the right profile of player if they are to move in the market. Kudus is another player Ten Hag knows well given their time together in Amsterdam, where Kudus has been since 2020. It's understood no offer has been made yet, though behind the scenes talks have taken place. The Old Trafford club's cash position has come into question in recent weeks and United have been put up for sale by the much-maligned Glazer family, ma

Lakers' LeBron James says he'll 'monitor' foot injury after on-court 'I heard it pop' comment in win over Mavs

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James says he and the team will " monitor " his right foot over the next few days after a disconcerting moment in the team's win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday in which on -court cameras caught him saying "I heard it pop" in regards to his foot.  Late in the third quarter of the Lakers' stunning victory, in which they overcame a 27-point deficit for the largest comeback in the league this season , James made what appeared to be a normal drive to the basket against Dwight Powell. However, when he fell to the ground after being fouled, he immediately clutched at his foot, and stayed down for a brief period in what appeared to be real pain. That is when the cameras caught him saying "I heard it pop."  🚨#Lakers superstar LeBron James said he heard his right ankle "pop" after this play late in the 3rd quarter vs. t

Giannis Antetokounmpo injury update: Bucks star ruled out of 2021 NBA Finals rematch with Suns on Sunday

MILWAUKEE --  Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has officially been ruled out of his team's 2021 NBA Finals rematch with the Phoenix Suns on Sunday due to a right quad contusion. Antetokounmpo suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Bucks' 128-99 victory over the Miami Heat on Friday night -- a result that gave Milwaukee the longest winning streak in the league this season at 13 games.  A team spokesperson initially said that Antetokounmpo "knocked knees" with a Heat player, which Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer confirmed during his post Game press conference. After further evaluation, however, the team is now calling it a quad contusion.  "It's enough where he can't play today but I think we're also confident that this is a fairly common occurrence in our league," Budenholzer said during his pre-game press conference on Sunday. "You hit knees,

5 Premier League clubs paying close attention to Marseille striker Bamba Dieng

Several Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on Marseille striker Bamba Dieng, who was close to proposed moves to Leeds and Nice during the summer until both fell through. Dieng was cost a summer move over medical concerns. He subsequently missed the start of Marseille's season but has since recovered his fitness and was part of the Senegal squad that reached the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup last month. The 22-year-old came off the bench in all four Game s and scored in a win over hosts Qatar. 90min understands that Marseille are set to offer Bamba Dieng a new contract, having entered the final 18 months of his current deal, although a Premier League transfer could be calling instead. There are as many as five English clubs looking at Dieng with a view to potentially bringing him to the Premier League before the January window close s. Having seen Patrick Bamford again struggle for fitness and form this season, Leeds have resurrected their interest in Dieng, wh

Josko Gvardiol gives update on Chelsea transfer interest

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has revealed he is expecting Chelsea to return with an offer for him before the end of the January transfer window, although is in no rush to leave before summer. Chelsea failed with a £77m bid during the summer, with Gvardiol then extending his Leipzig contract by a year until 2027. But he spoke about ‘seeing what happens in winter’ as soon as September. Since then, the young defender, who will turn 21 later this month, has continued to impress with Leipzig and also enjoyed a barnstorming World Cup at which he helped Croatia finish third. But with January here, the subject of his next move has come back around. In addition to Chelsea, 90min understands that Real Madrid and Manchester City have also spoken with Leipzig. Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have all expressed interest too. However, Chelsea were further down the road in terms of negotiations than anyone else and Gvardiol appreciates just how keen the Blues are, although the dif

Lisandro Martinez braced for fight to recover Man Utd starting spot

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is embracing the com Pet ition for places as he attempts to force his way back into Erik ten Hag’s start ing XI. Martinez started all of United’s first 14 Premier League games of the season prior to the World Cup break. Having gone all the way to the World Cup final with Argentina, becoming just the fifth player to get his hands on the trophy while on the books at Old Trafford, he was granted extra time off to rest and recover when club football resumed in late December. What Lisandro Martinez said to Scott McTominay after winning the World Cup The 24-year-old, who United agreed to pay up to £57m for, was absent from the matchday squad, against Burnley in the Carabao Cup – a Game played only three days after the World Cup final - as well as missing Premier League wins over Nottingham Forest and Wolves. Martinez was back when United faced Bournemouth on Tuesday night, given a returning hero’s welcome when he was reintroduced to the Old Traf

West Ham hold talks over Youssef En-Nesyri and Terem Moffi

West Ham United have spoken to Sevilla about a deal for long-term target Youssef En-Nesyri, 90min can confirm, and have held talks over the signing of Lorient forward Terem Moffi. The Hammers are struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table after losing 11 of the 18 Game s they've played so far this season, winning just four and drawing three. David Moyes' side have scored only 15 goals in that time - the joint-fourth worst record in the division - despite forking out big money in the summer on the likes of Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta, and that lack of return has placed huge pressure on the shoulders of the former Everton and Manchester United manager. 90min has long understood that West Ham are in the market for another forward to provide com Pet ition for Scamacca and Michail Antonio, and sources have confirmed that contact has again been made with struggling Sevilla over En-Nesyri. Raheem Sterling sent for further checks on hamstring injury

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has undergone a second scan on his hamstring injury after the first failed to reveal the severity of his issue. Sterling managed just a few minutes of the Premier League defeat to Manchester City last week but did manage to walk off the pitch, shortly before teammate Christian Pulisic joined him on the treatment table. While Potter revealed that Pulisic was likely to miss 'weeks', he had no specific update on Sterling and The Athletic note that is down to the need for a second scan. "Christian just opened up his knee in the Game the other day so we’re still analysing it. It’s going to be weeks I would say," the boss explained. "Raheem just had an action in the first minute that Game , a back heel that was a bit strange and he felt something in his hamstring . So again we are analysing that." Listen now as  Scott Saunders  hosts  Graeme Bailey  and  Toby Cudworth  in the latest episode of Talking Transfers. This week they di

NBA 3-point Contest results: Blazers' Damian Lillard wins All-Star event on final shot

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has had an extremely well-decorated career, and he added some more hardware to his collection on Saturday night. Thanks to some elite sharpshooting over two rounds, Lillard won the 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah. By finishing on top, Lillard became the first player in Trail Blazers history to win the contest.  Lillard came out firing in the first round while wearing his jersey from his days at Weber State. He scored 26 points in that first round, which was enough to propel him to the final s.  Dame pulled up in the Weber State jersey and dropped 26 to advance to the final round 🎯#Starry3PT x #StateFarmSaturday 📺: Live on TNT pic.twitter.com/2T54wP2LYP — NBA (@NBA) February 19, 2023 Jayson Tatum (20 points), Julius Randle (13), Kevin Huerter (8), Tyler Herro (18) and Lauri Markkanen (20) were all eliminated in the first r

Heat frontrunners to sign Kevin Love on buyout market, but veteran will also talk to 76ers, per reports

The Miami Heat are viewed as the frontrunners to land Kevin Love on the buyout market , per The Athletic's Shams Charania. Love was bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, and will also talk to the Philadelphia 76ers , per ESPN. Love, who was a member of the Cavaliers since 2014, was the last remaining player from Cleveland's 2016 championship season.  It was first reported on Wednesday that Love and the Cavaliers were working toward a buyout , with the Heat viewed as the early favorites to sign him. He's surely drawn interest from several playoff-contending teams, but The Athletic reports that Miami's pitch to the veteran forward, which involves a defined role on a squad primed to compete in the playoffs, could be the deciding factor in him signing there for the rest of the season. Love's fit on the Heat makes a ton of sense, giving them a floor spacing forward who can still knock

Wout Weghorst to undergo Man Utd medical

Besiktas have given Wout Weghorst permission to fly to England in order to finalise a move to Manchester United, sources have told 90min . The Red Devils recently identified the Netherlands target man as a short-term solution to their striker woes and made contact with parent club Burnley about taking over his loan deal from Besiktas. And Weghorst's new loan could be confirmed soon as 90min understands he is set to undergo a medical with United. While the deal is now progressing smoothly, United were initially not happy that they would have to wait for Besiktas to sort out a replacement for Weghorst, though were understanding of their position. But the Turkish giants have now agreed to let Weghorst leave before a replacement has signed on the dotted line. Al Nassr's Vincent Aboubakar has been heavily linked with a return to Besiktas in recent days. Man Utd vs Man City - Premier League: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Manchester United and Manchester City go head to head in a Manchester derby this weekend that takes on a very different flavour to the last meeting between the pair in October. United had gone into that Game off the back of a good string of results that included wins over Liverpool and Arsenal. But it was still the very early stages of the Erik ten Hag project and City were themselves unbeaten in the Premier League . As it was, City ran riot at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden had each scored twice by half-time and United only came back into it once both had completed hat-tricks and it was 6-1. But fast forward to now, United are perhaps in the best shape they have been in at any point since Sir Alex Ferguson retired 10 years ago. City, for all that they have beaten Chelsea twice in quick succession have had a few wobbles and were dreadfully poor against Southampton on Wednesday. Where are Man Utd vs Man City playing? Location:  Manchester, England Stadium:  Old Traff

Hornets' LaMelo Ball is setting records as a high-volume 3-point shooter, but is that for the best long-term?

Image
This has not been the season that LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets had in mind. Multiple ankle injuries have limited Ball to just 32 games, while the Hornets have the fourth-worst record in the league at 16-43, even after a nice 144-138 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.  It can be easy to lose track of teams and players in situations like the one the Hornets are in this season, and to that point, it's likely that most casual fans are unaware that Ball has turned into a high-volume 3-point gunner. Ball was on fire in the Hornets' win on Monday, finishing with 30 points and a career-high 15 assists on 6-of-10 from downtown to set a franchise record for the most consecutive games with a 3-pointer at 47. He's also the youngest player in league history (21 years old) to have a 3-point streak of at least 35 games. (Ball also became the first Hornets player with a 30-point, 15-assist game.)
