Ricciardo to tackle Nurburgring Nordschleife in Red Bull demo

Daniel Ricciardo will drive a Red Bull Formula 1 car around the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife later in 2023.

The Australian rejoined the team after being dropped by McLaren for this season, with his third driver duties involving commercial responsibilities as well as playing reserve for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

As part of his role, Ricciardo will complete a number of show runs across the year, with the latest announcement confirming his participation a the Red Bull Formula Nurburgring event in September, which will help support the 12H Nurburgring.

The eight-time Grand Prix winner will become the first driver to take to the Nordschleife in modern F1 machinery in a decade, following Michael Schumacher's run as part of the 24-hour event. Nick Heidfeld also completed a lap of the 'Green Hell' in 2007.

Ricciardo's other duties this year include attending a number of events as Red Bull's reserve driver, as well as the potential for taking part in an official Pirelli tyre test for the team.

Virgil van Dijk charged by FA after Newcastle red card

The Football Association have charged Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk over his conduct in the aftermath of his red card in the 2-1 victory over Newcastle United. Van Dijk was shown a straight red card shortly before the half-hour mark after he fouled Alexander Isak as Liverpool's last defender. As the decision was being reviewed by VAR, Van Dijk was seen arguing with referee John Brooks and the FA have now opted to take action against the Liverpool centre-back. "Virgil van Dijk has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following Liverpool’s Premier League Game against Newcastle United on Sunday, 27 August," a statement from the FA read. "It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official." Brown sets McLaren ambitious target after slow 2023 start
