The Pittsburgh Pirates will host the Chicago Cubs for Game one of their divisional series this Thursday from PNC Park.

Cubs Preview & Projected Starter

Chicago comes in at 66-60 after taking two of three from Detroit on the road. The Cubs had a good stay in the Motor City, and they’ll look to stay on Milwaukee heels this weekend in the division race. The Chicago offense is scoring 4.12 runs per game, while batting .243, with a .323 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.18 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP.

Justin Steele (14-3, 2.80 ERA, 127 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The third-year lefty capitalized on the light home spot with Kansas City, striking out seven thru six innings, while holding them to two runs en route to a Cubs victory.  Steele is enjoying a career season, and he’s been dialed in since making his first All-Star appearance, tossing five quality starts, while holding clubs to three runs or less in his last seven outings. Steele’s lone trip to PA, as he tossed six scoreless frames in Philly back in May.

Pirates Preview & Projected Starter

Pittsburgh comes in at 57-70 after taking two of three from St. Louis at home. The Pirates picked up their second series win of the month, and they’ll look for more divisional success this weekend. The Pittsburgh offense is scoring 4.11 runs per Game, while batting .235, with a .320 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.50 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP.

Pittsburgh has yet to name a starter for this contest.

Pirates Player Trends & Props

Bryan Reynolds has doubled in three of the last four games, and he’s first on the team in hits (119), with splits of .267/18/62.

Andrew McCutchen has totaled multiple bases in four of the previous five Games, and he’s posting a line of .252/12/38.

Ke’Bryan Hayes homered in the Game three loss to STL, and he’s batting .259, with 46 RBI for the season.

Jack Suwinski leads the club in home runs (21), with 54 RBI.

Corey’s Free Pick

Chicago has a real chance to steal this division from Milwaukee as long as they stay within striking distance, and they should be able to keep things going with Justin Steele set to go. Steele has arguably been the best pitcher in baseball this season, and he can improve his Cy Young case with another strong outing here. If Steele receives the run support, this divisional battle should result in a Cubs win.
