Lakers vs. Kings Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight - NBA

The battle for top NBA team in California is going to be a fight to the finish this season, and the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings can make an early move as they square off tonight.

With some vintage LeBron James plays down the stretch, the Lakers looked more like themselves in Thursday’s 100-95 win over the shorthanded Phoenix Suns, and the NBA odds for this matchup suggest the visitors can keep this one close.

The Kings, one of the popular NBA picks for a regression year, ran into an electric night from nemesis Steph Curry on Friday in a 122-114 loss and, like the Lakers, now sit at 1-1.

Read on for our free NBA picks and predictions for Lakers vs. Kings on October 29.

Lakers vs. Kings predictions

There’s no shame in being overshadowed by Steph Curry, but De’Aaron Fox’s monster night on Friday deserves some love too. Fox did everything he could to keep the Kings in touch with the Golden State Warriors, scoring 39 points on 14-for-28 shooting, with five triples and four assists.

Justifying all the hype after averaging 25 points a Game last season for a 48-win Sacramento team, Fox seems ready to catapult even higher up the list of NBA point guards. I see him running wild again tonight against the Lakers.

This feels like a great matchup for Fox, with L.A. vulnerable against speedy guards. D’Angelo Russell isn’t going to be able to slow him down, so Austin Reaves is the likeliest to get the Fox assignment. Even so, that’s a one-on-one duel the Kings’ leader can dominate.

Fox cooked the Lakers last season, admittedly prior to L.A.’s defensive revamp. He had 30+ points in three of their meetings, all on efficient shooting, including a 34-point, nine-assist line back in January.

His home and road splits were very similar in the 2022-23 season, but his FG% climbed to 52.6% at Golden 1 Center.

I expect Fox to shine again tonight as the focal point of a potent Sacramento offense. Give me the Over on his points prop.

My best bet: De’Aaron Fox Over 25.5 points (-115 at bet365)

De’Aaron Fox Over 25.5 points

Austin Reaves Over 1.5 3s

Under 234.5

+800 at bet365

I’m pumping up the Fox points prop in this same-game parlay. Reaves has had a quiet first week in his first full season as an L.A. starter, with just 24 points and a pair of triples through the first two games. But I see him bouncing back tonight against a shaky Kings defense and cashing in on more looks from beyond the arc.

The Lakers need Reaves to nudge closer to being a 20-point scorer this year, and I see him jacking up more than the seven shots he took against the Suns on Thursday.

I’m also padding the odds with the Under. As long as Anthony Davis is on the court, the visitors are going to have the type of defense that can at least make Fox and Domantas Sabonis work for their points, while L.A. is also coming off a 5-for-29 effort from downtown against Phoenix. The 234.5 total feels a bit steep to me.

Lakers vs. Kings and Over/Under analysis

It’s too early to gauge much about these teams’ ceilings this year, so it feels about right to see the Kings as 2.5-point favorites at home.

Sacramento handled the Utah Jazz with ease on opening night behind 33 points from Harrison Barnes but came down to earth on Friday against an avalanche of Curry triples.

Meanwhile, the Lakers shook off another dispiriting loss to the Denver Nuggets by rallying late to beat the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. But even then, they needed a dominant fourth quarter and a 30-point night from Davis to edge a Suns team missing Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. There’s clearly plenty of work ahead in Lakerland.

L.A. went 20-21 on the road last season, while the Kings were a solid but unspectacular 23-18 at Golden 1 Center.

Sacramento’s potent offense, which led the league with 120.7 points per game in 2022-23, has seemingly carried that production into this season, benefitting from the continuity of largely bringing back the same roster.

The Over has hit in 27 of the Kings’ last 43 home games, but both teams are still searching for a steady third scorer to ease the burden on their top options. With some early season rust and longer bench rotations, I’m leaning towards the Under here.
