Flyers vs Flames predictions
The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the most overperforming teams in the league this season. Since allowing the San Jose Sharks to get their first win on November 7th, the Flyers are 14-4-4 in their last 22 games. They’ve picked up points in nine of their last 13 games while playing a tough schedule.
They held on for an overtime loss in Seattle on the second half of a back-to-back set on Friday night.
"In overtime, they get the bounce, but overall, it was a good effort," said Travis Konecny, who scored Philadelphia's lone goal. "We'll take the point. It's a tough way to come in — back to back after the (holiday) break — so we'll take it and move on."
The Calgary Flames have been a bit more up and down thus far. The Flames had a four-game losing streak followed by a three-game winning streak prior to their last two losses.
Overall, the Flyers are a Top-10 team in terms of expected goals for share at 5-on-5 play. They have the eighth-best xGF at 52.20% while the Flames sit in the middle of the pack at 50.77%.
The Flames’ goaltending situation has been suspect all season long. Jacob Markstrom is healthy again, but the veteran netminder is just 8-10-2 this season with a 2.71 GAA and .904 SV%. Danial Vladar and Dustin Wolf have save percentages under .900 in his stead.
On the other hand, both Carter Hart and Samuel Ersson have been strong between the pipes for the Flyers. Hart has a .915 SV% this season while Ersson’s .902 SV% is weighed down by his first two horrific starts. He’s 9-2-1 with a .927 SV% in his last 12 games (since November 3rd).
While the Flames have the rest advantage, home ice hasn’t been too advantageous for Calgary. The Flames are 8-7-1 at home while the Flyers have been thriving on the road at 11-4-4 this season.
This game should be closer to a pick’em so we’re going with the Flyers as value underdogs.

Flyers vs Flames same-game parlay
Flyers moneyline
Under 6.5
First period Under 1.5
After anchoring with our best bet, we’re adding in the Under 6.5. There have been six goals or fewer in five of the last six Flyers games and eight of their last 11. Dating back to just before American Thanksgiving, the Flyers have gone Under 6.5 in 12 of 17 games.
The Flames have trended toward the Over this season, but they've played more low-scoring games recently with Jacob Markstrom back in net. The Under 6.5 has hit in five of the Flames' last six games as well.
Finally, we’re closing out the parlay with the first-period Under 1.5. The Flames (27 goals) and Flyers (32) rank in the Bottom 11 among first-period scoring. While the Flames have allowed 39 goals in the opening frame, the Flyers are at just 31.
The Flyers will look to establish their Game in a tight-checking first period in Calgary.

Flyers vs Flames moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Flyers’ odds are +115 as road underdogs while the Calgary Flames odds are -135 as home favorites.
This line could move throughout the day on Sunday depending on the goalie matchup. I’d trust both Hart and Ersson while Markstrom is head-and-shoulders above his backup.
The total is set at a low 5.5 with the Over 5.5 at -125 and Under 5.5 at +105.
